What are the camp hours?
Our regular camp program begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM. Supervision is included before camp starting at 9:00 AM, and after camp until 4:30 PM.
What about Extended Day Care?
Sierra Canyon Day Camp offers an extended day care program. The hours and fees are as follows:
7:00 AM — 9:00 AM
4:30 AM — 6:00 PM
$8/day for AM and PM
$6/day for AM or PM only
What should my child wear to camp?
Play clothes are the most comfortable. Closed-toe shoes are preferred. Sierra Canyon is not responsible for lost articles. Parents are requested to mark their child’s first and last names on all belongings!
What should my child bring to camp each day?
Your child should bring a swimsuit and towel. Both should be labeled with your child’s first and last names. Swim apparel should be carried in a tote bag with the camper’s name on it. Lunch should be in a sack with the camper’s name on it. We provide popsicles in the afternoon.
What if my child wants to buy a catered lunch?
A catered lunch (hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches, salads, fruits, and desserts) may be purchased daily for $6.00. For your convenience, lunch tickets may be purchased in advance in the camp office. Please put cash or a lunch ticket in an envelope with your child’s name on it.
What if it rains?
Camp will be in session as usual. Sierra Canyon has excellent indoor facilities.
How will my child be placed in a group?
Children are grouped according to grade level and age. All groups are co-ed and are supervised by at least one head counselor, one junior counselor and two CITs throughout the day. We always try to accommodate your group requests.
What is a unit?
Sierra Canyon is divided into two units. Unit I consists of children entering Pre-Kindergarten through First Grade. Unit II includes children entering Second Grade and above as well as specialty camps.
Pool Safety
We take many precautions to ensure that our pool is safe and fun for children of all ages:
Aquatics Staff
Each day your child will swim under the supervision of seven experienced American Red Cross certified lifeguards and instructors, as well as several counselors who are trained in water rescue techniques.
Swim Testing and Ability
On the first day of camp, your child’s swimming abilities will be assessed and each camper will be assigned to an area of the pool according to his or her swimming capabilities. “Free Swim” allows each child to choose from a variety of aquatic activities, including different types of water games, floating devices, and diving boards while interacting with other campers and counselors.
The Sierra Canyon Day Camp Water Slide
In addition to our wide variety of aquatic activities, at certain times swimmers who have been tested and deemed “swim safe” enjoy our totally tubular water slide.
Swim Instruction
Campers entering Pre-Kindergarten through 1st Grade will receive swim instruction for the first 20 minutes of their daily swim program. Campers entering 2nd Grade will receive instruction based on our assessment or on parents’ requests. Our instruction is divided into four swim groups, which are based on the American Red Cross guidelines for swim instruction, ranging from basic beginner to intermediate classes. Each child is placed in the appropriate swim group, where he or she learns new swimming skills and reviews essential lifesaving techniques.
Medical Needs & Attention
The main concern of the Sierra Canyon Day Camp aquatics staff is to provide your child with a fun and safe summer. If your child needs any special medical attention, such as ear plugs or sunscreen (which we provide), or if he or she cannot swim because of an illness, please send a note with your child to camp.
