COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (CIT) PROGRAM

Students entering 9th and 10th grade receive training and experience working with children in a summer camp environment. They learn valuable life skills pertaining to behavior management techniques, initiative experiences and role modeling. The camaraderie, friendships, and lessons learned in the CIT program will last a lifetime! Many CITs have the opportunity to move upward within our staff to become future Junior Counselors, Counselors, Specialists and possibly Directors at Sierra Canyon. Those interested in becoming a CIT candidate are encouraged to download and complete the application and return it to our office.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work one session (five weeks); encouraged to work full summer (ten weeks).

    • Session Dates:​

      • Available on application. 

      • Monday – Friday 9:00am – 3:30pm

  • Fee: $80 per participant (payable upon acceptance to the CIT program)

Expectations

  • Assist counselors with the management of campers.

  • Communicate with staff problems or issues that arise with campers.

  • Work with counselors to resolve disciplinary issues that arise with campers.

  • Be active participants and assist staff during all camp activities.

  • Help campers in being successful with games, projects, and activities.

  • Assist in leading games and activities as well as plan and execute your own activity.

  • Assist in set-up and facilitation of camp events such as theme days.

  • Assume additional, reasonable responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Leadership Director.
