Aquatics Staff
Each day your child will swim under the supervision of five experienced American Red Cross certified lifeguards and instructors, as well as several counselors who are trained in water rescue techniques.
Pool Depth, Maintenence & Heating
We have two beautifully maintained pools at Sierra Canyon Day Camp with different sections zoned out by lane lines for specific depths. Our shallow end is 2 and a half feet and our deep end is 8 feet. Both pools are inspected daily by both our aquatics team and a professional pool cleaning company to maintain safe PH and chlorine levels at all times. Pools are also heated between 85-88 degrees allowing a comfortable swim no matter what time it is!
Swim Testing and Ability
On the first day of camp your child’s swimming abilities will be assessed. Each camper will be assigned to an area of the pool according to his or her swimming capabilities. “Free Swim” allows each child to choose from a variety of aquatic activities, including different types of water games, floating devices, the diving board and going down our 3 story water slide while interacting with other campers and counselors.
The Sierra Canyon Day Camp Water Slide
In addition to our wide variety of aquatic activities, at certain times swimmers who have been tested and deemed “swim safe” enjoy our totally tubular water slide. We have ample supervision on all aspects of the slide including a staff member who is available to catch our younger swimmers as they come down.
Swim Groups
Our Unit 1 campers are divided into three swim groups which are based on the American Red Cross guidelines for swim ability placement ranging from basic beginner to intermediate level. Each child is placed in the appropriate swim group and will participate in water activities based on their ability and comfort in the water.
Medical Needs & Attention
The highest priority of the Sierra Canyon Day Camp aquatics staff is to provide your child with a fun and safe summer. If your child needs any special medical attention such as ear plugs or sunscreen (which we provide), or if he or she cannot swim because of an illness, please send a note with your child to camp. We are happy to accommodate any of your requests.
